Heart Disease: What You Should Know

Once again, the high stakes of heart disease have come to focus with the by-pass surgery of former President Clinton. Amazingly, someone we would expect to have the finest medical care America has to offer surprised his doctors with the extent of his advanced arteriosclerosis– the build-up of plaque in the arteries. In hushed voices, the media points out that he had been taking – but had stopped - his statin drug, the seeming miracle of the pharmaceutical industry for lowering LDL cholesterol.

Why did he stop? We can only guess that the fatigue, low libido, muscle aches and pains that are trademark side effects of this class of drugs may have played a role.

He had recently made dietary changes and lost weight following the South Beach Diet. But had he taken the scans and blood tests that can all clearly determine the extent of the buildup and if he had chosen the right diet to support his metabolism?

What should he have known?

  1. Fat is not bad – but there are bad fats that prevent the body from metabolizing a class of fatty acids critical maintaining a healthy heart.
  2. Cholesterol is not bad – but oxidized cholesterol can clog arteries.
  3. Healthy arteries, free of cholesterol, are the result of a healthy liver.
  4. Keeping arteries – and virtually every cell of the body in good repair – requires a healthy antioxidant system.
  5. Simple dietary changes can do more to reduce cholesterol than costly medications.
  6. New Spirit’s Annual Convention can introduce you to amazing medical tests that can tell you how your lifestyle, stress level, diet and exercise are impacting your arteries and your metabolism. New Spirit also holds weekly health seminars in San Dimas - and sponsors these informative programs throughout the country.
